Australia beat South Africa by 214 runs on the final day at Kingsmead in Durban, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. It was the tourists’ first Test tour to South Africa since the Sandpaper gate.
Matt Renshaw was the standout for the visitors. Australia were in serious trouble at 124-6 in the first innings, but Renshaw played a marathon knock of 190 to power them to 390. He added 82 in the second innings to help set a target of 421.
Josh Hazlewood then stepped up with a six-wicket haul in the second innings to seal the win for his side. Aiden Markram produced a gritty 75 for South Africa, but it was not enough to save the hosts.
World Test Championship standings
The result strengthened Australia’s grip on top spot in the World Test Championship standings. South Africa slipped to third place in the updated WTC 2025-27 points table.
